MELINDA DAHL
Dahl often shoots her images in dreamlike settings, such as a beach or woodland. I think the focus of the images, with some areas being blurry, really adds to this dreamlike quality.
I really love the off focus of this image. Perhaps it is an effect to consider when I am experimenting with different techniques. I think the blurryness along with the smoke-like light areas and the setting gives this image and the one below a haunted feel. Almost like a flashback because there is not much distinctiveness within the image. Everything is quite vague like a memory.
Dahl uses alot of textures. Notice the different textures of the womans hair, the water and the out of focus leaves in the foreground.
I love the strong depth of field she creates in her images.
I have always been a fan of Melinda Dahl. I love her fine art images. Each and every image she creates is unique and beautiful. I think what I most like about her images is, again like Rankin's Polaroids, is the texture and focus of them. I also love the lighting within her images, contrasting often between light and dark. Her work reminds me of Sally Mann because of this. I love the washed out effect of some of her images like her lens has caught the suns rays and the camera is struggling to cope with too much light. I love the vignetting she uses on most of her images. I think she has a style simliar to the style of a Polaroid picture. Whether or not these are Polaroid I do not know.
